Experiencing God

Originally released in the early 90's Experiencing God has been revised and expanded in this new edition. Created by Henry and Richard Blackaby with Claude King this 12 week daily Bible study will lead you through the steps of how to become closer to God and His purposes for your life. Also available are a companion DVD and leader's book.

This book requires dedication and a resolve to see it to the end. It is not something to be done lightly. The more you put into it the more you will be able to get out of it. Each week begins with a memory verse to carry you through the week with five days of reading and questions to fill out. There is a LOT of repetition but not in a bad way. The points of the book are explored again and again in a way that really helps the reader to remember it. It is meant to be read in small groups which allow smembers to support each other as they all delve into truly experiencing God!

Christy: The Complete Series

On March 20, 2007 Twentieth Century Fox released this short-lived two season television series on DVD. The show is based on the classic novel of the same name by Catherine Marshall which is so revered that Christian fiction's Christy Award also bears it's name. Christy tells the story of a young girl who leaves the comforts of her city home to teach school in the Appalachian community of Cutter Gap, Tennessee in 1912. As we watch the community's agnostic doctor struggle to make sense of the faith he sees in the world around him, we also witness Christy struggling to follow God's plan for her life. She is a woman of unwavering faith who often questions how God is working through events on this poverty-stricken mountain and always seems to get her answer. Watching this series tends to put your own problems in perspective. When the people in the mountain country can't afford to purchase shoes for children who must walk everywhere they go in the cold winter, you begin to see God's abundant blessings in your own life much more clearly. This DVD collection would be an excellent choice for any church library, but especially for those in which the "prairie romance" genre is popular.
